Believe, Achieve and Grow
Tongala Primary School is a wellbeing focused school. With a full time Wellbeing Officer, we are strong advocates of teaching the skills to students that give them tools to self-regulate, reflect and monitor their own wellbeing. For us; wellbeing isn’t just about teaching kids to smile and be happy, it is about giving them strategies that will enrich their lives.
Families are encouraged at Tongala Primary School to seek out the wellbeing officer if faced with a problem or a concern about their child. Things that we may help with are:
- Mental health issues
- Educational Department Assessments
- Self-regulation issues
- Bullying
- Developing a growth mindset
- Conflict issues within peer groups.
- Cyber Bullying
- Grief and Loss
- Family Violence
- Personal development

Tongala Primary School has school values that encompass the notion of ‘resilience, respect and responsibility’. Respect of self and others, Responsibility for our learning and the choices we make and resilience for a changing and challenging world. Tongala Primary school has implemented programs such as:

- Respectful Relationships

- Values Education

- Student leadership

- Student Engagement Programs

- Class meetings

- Mindfulness

- Huff n Puff

Our school is a School Wide Positive Behaviours Framework school, which has completed the 3 year training and fully accredited. This framework provides a structure and common language to deal with issues and reward positive behaviours across the entire school community. Our mascot, Ronny from Tonny (a long necked turtle), helps us to live and breathe our school values every day.

We are currently partnered with Real Schools, who are supporting our development to instil a culture of Restorative Practices.

School Support Services provided by the Department of Education are School Psychologist, Speech Therapist and a Social worker. These services can be accessed by families through contacting the Wellbeing team. The school also employs an Occupational Therapist for 1 day a week, to provide support to students, families and teachers.

Tongala Primary School supports and complies with the Child Safe policy standards and demonstrates the commitment of the school to have a zero tolerance of child abuse.
